America’s Next Top Model truly outdid itself with the crazy last night. I’ve watched nearly every episode of this series, but last night’s episode, in which the girls had to write and perform their own songs and music videos, took the cake for the most hilarious.
The show started out with a video from a YouTube, child “sensation” named Madison, a cute little girl in pigtails with a lisp who gave the ladies a make-up lesson. Sigh. During her video, the girls pretended (?) they knew who she was and “aw-ed” over her every clumsy mouthful. Awkwardly, Madison informs them that they will be writing a song.
The girls scream, and Creepy Chan, Allison Harvard, looks really nauseous. She can’t sing, but remember, Allison, true singing ability doesn’t matter in the days of Auto-tune. Jay Manuel comes to the house and tells them that their next challenge is to write and record a music video. Some song producer guy comes into the house and tells them that he has written a beat/melody of a song inspired by each individual model, so all they have to do is write the lyrics.
Oh, it’s bad.
Lisa is apparently a “musician,” so she knows that she has to slap this challenge 800 times harder than any of the other girls. Alexandria ponders maturing into a real recording artist one day while she incorporates the lyrics “Go, go, go” into the chorus of her song. Shannon channels every blonde country singer of all time, and writes about the fairy tale romance between herself and her husband.
Lisa wins the challenge, so they bring in her bland fiancé, a man who she describes as her better half. Yawn.
Next, the ladies have to record the vocals for the songs written for them. Tyra decides to add a random twist—each of them has to include the phrase “Pot Ledom,” which, for those of you who fell behind in school, is “Top Model” backwards. They also have to include that phrase in their song—“Top Model” backwards—because Tyra thinks her audience is a bunch of morons.
After they finish their vocals, they have to complete the most important part of the project: the music video. Dominique is first, and she looks good in her video in a bejeweled dress, but also grossly includes some CoverGirl references to her lash blasted eyelashes. They didn’t even require this!
They send poor Alexandria home because she moved like a tin man on her video. Poor thing. She’ll never become a superstar recording artist after all!
