There aren’t too many things better than a good episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The way that Larry David’s writing – and I suppose the way he lives his life – is so detached from the vast majority of folks wondering around on the street as to make for some of the most unique stuffs on the olde televisor. So in the show’s distance from normalcy – and the fact the most of the show Larry’s been married – Curb has avoided entire shows in which the main character chases tail. And yes, there was an entire season when Larry was allowed to search out his ‘anniversary present,’ but that was a unique situation to say the least.
But since his divorce and kicking Loretta outta the house, the episodes of this year’s season have found Larry, in various ways, figuring out how to be satisfied. It’s a universal topic that pretty much every guy can relate to, but that’s not what makes Curb interesting.
This week, Larry runs into an old girlfriend as he’s leaving the doctors office after visiting the physician because of an incident involving a hot towel that was a bit too hot. As Larry chats up this woman – who the character admits is too attractive for him – and they set a date for a few days hence. That’s pretty promising.
There’s a subplot involving Sammie – Geoff’s daughter – being a horrible singer that doesn’t really supply too many laughs, but does help wrap up the disparate narratives in the episode. At Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen’s anniversary, where the singing in question takes place, Larry bumps into Christian Slater who seems to be eating more than his share of caviar. Larry notes the actor’s transgressions to his host, prompting Slater to become just a little bitter.
Back to Larry’s flame, though.
Because of Larry’s hand injury, he’s a bit nervous about his ‘moves.’ He decides that he’s going to hafta try and work the bra with the opposite hand that he’s accustomed to using. Unfortunately, his progress is cut short by the fact that the woman’s boyfriend is on the way up – Larry books it. He doesn’t, though, remember to take the bandage that he discarded with him. And when the boyfriend arrives and coaxes the truth outta his lady friend, the disgruntled dude heads over to Larry’s.
In a show of superb athleticism, Larry runs out of his house and down the street attempting to make his way into anyone’s home that’ll have him. Finally, Geoff allows his buddy to stay the evening. But as luck would have it, Larry runs into the woman in a restaurant and only narrowly escapes the boyfriend, but not before the protagonist is prompted to run down the street for a good long time.
This 64th episode of Curb wasn’t without its charm. It was actually pretty funny. The problem is that when Larry chases woman – and get’s ‘em, almost – they’re always hot. And out of his league. So even if the show is gonna further pursue Larry’s sexual exploits, hopefully, they’ll be case better.
