The final episode of Entourage’s sixth season didn’t really have the task of tying up loose ends – a few, for sure, but nothing that would seemingly dictate the happenings of the following season.
Vince has been waiting to leave for his next project the entire year, so viewers should be glad that at the end of this episode the guy finally boards a plane to leave. But instead of bedding down random women to pass the time, the one time focus of the show is hounded by a mean-mugged Matt Damon through out the entire show. Portraying himself, Damon pressures Vince to give up time – and then money – to help starving kids. It’s kinda shocking when Bono crops up (via webcam) to further prod the actor. And Lebron? Didn’t really see that coming. Anyway, Vince winds up dropping a load of cash in the laps of kids and jetting off to the set of his new film. Johnny Drama’s in tow, but only after the he finds out that some network thinks he’s too old for Melrose Place, but not too old to develop a new show for. Good job?
Detachment from reality only works in so many shows during so many instances. It hasn’t always floundered here on Entourage, but when a scene clearly removed from what could potentially occur in a world where everyone isn’t a model, it’s usually a distraction. Usually. It can still be kinda funny. And when Ari walks through his newly snatched-up agency shooting people with a paint-ball gun viewers have got to be wondering who and why the writers deemed this an appropriate scene to include. The entire endeavor seemed akin to when the agent flipped his wig while talking to Lloyd on the phone – and that ended with the secretary leaving Ari’s car in the middle of traffic…Anyway…Ari had a good week regardless.
Apart from the business end of it all, the love stories – one self constructed and the other just dragging on – are dealt with during the remainder of the relatively long show (it clocked in something like ten minutes longer than normal). Anyway, Turtles woman is on the other side of the planet and he can’t get it up for some sexy, barley legal skank that’s been chasing him around campus. And no, I don’t know why her dorm room as a sliding glass door out onto some walkway with people perpetually walking around. But Turtle hops a plane to New Zealand to be with his love only to be told not to just moments before taking off. That’s a long trip for absolutely nothing.
Meanwhile, Eric is amidst attempting to romance Sloan back for something like the eighth time. He drives her to middle of nowhere – a romantic restaurant, for sure – and says some sappy stuff that pisses the woman off seeing as she’s currently dating some dude. On the drive back to the city, dude proposes marriage and everything’s alright again. I guess that’s as detached from reality as Ari roving free with a paint ball gun. But at least there a few things for the next season of Entourage to work with, but just a few.
