Ed McMahon died this morning at the age of 86 from what is thought to have been medical reasons; he had been having health problems for the last few months. Ed McMahon was well known for his sidekick spot on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson from 1962 till the early 90’s. He was also known for the syndicated series, “Star Search” which first aired in 1983 and helped launched the careers of several actors, singers, choreographers and comedians, the show ended in 1995.
In 2008 Ed McMahon started to have financial issues and went into foreclosure on his multi-million dollar home in Beverly Hills. Donald Trump offered to buy the house from McMahon and lease it back to him, so that the legendary icon would not have to move out of his home. Trump did not do this on a business level, but he did it on a personal level because he did not want to see Hollywood’s Icon suffering. In June of 2005, the McMahon’s went on the Larry King Live show to state that just because Ed McMahon is an icon, does not mean that they have millions of dollars, in fact, quite the opposite.
In 2002, McMahon had sued his homeowner’s insurance company for more than $20 million dollars, stating that he and his family were sickened from mold that had spread through his Beverly Hills home after contractors had failed to clean up water damage from a pipe leak. McMahon and his wife, Pamela had become severely ill due to the mold, as well as his dog that had died. It was later confirmed that his dog had died from causes of mold. McMahon won the lawsuit, but had only won $7 million, instead of the $20 million he was suing for.
In 2007, Ed McMahon fell and broke his neck and in 2008, he sued Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and two doctors claiming fraud, battery, elder abuse and emotional distress and accused them of releasing him with a broken neck which later caused him two neck surgeries.
McMahon had been in the hospital for almost a month with a very serious condition, which was told to the press as pneumonia, but there were rumors that McMahon had been diagnosed with bone cancer.
McMahon was a great man, one that many people will never forget, if not for his sidekick spot on The Tonight Show (Heeeeeere’s Johnny!), for his service to our Country. McMahon had fought in World War II as a fighter pilot for the US Marine Corps. He retired at the rank of Colonel in 1966.
Ed, you were a great man and you will be missed by millions! Rest in peace.
